The Graduate Certificate in Contemporary Nursing program explores current and emerging national and regional health priorities, health research, health policy, and reform. Students are orientated to the nurses professional obligations in meeting all Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) codes, standards, and guidelines and to meet their legal and ethical obligations as a registered nurse. They explore critical thinking, clinical reasoning, reflection, and the use of current evidence and research to make sound clinical judgments in order to practice safely in a complex health environment. Medication management, pharmacology and the relationship to physiology and pathophysiology are addressed. Person centeredness, communication, and cultural competence are explored in both the theoretical and professional practice components, with a focus on caring for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
